The Bat signaling is shining in Hollywood. Batman, the hero of Gotham City, Justice League of America leader, and one of the most recognizable superheroes in comics, is getting his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Batman will be the first superhero to be given a star on the Walk of Fame. The Caped Crusader is also only the 20th fictional character to be given the honor.
“The Dark Knight has stood as a symbol of determination, courage, and justice to generations of fans for more than 85 years,” the announcement states. “Batman is recognized across the globe thanks to his portrayal in universally beloved comics, TV shows, cartoons, and movies, he has transcended his story into one of the great American myths. He is vengeance. He is the night. He is Batman.”
Batman will be honored with a star in a ceremony on September 26, 2024. So far, it’s been announced that DC President, Publisher, and CEO Jim Lee and DC’s SVP and General Manager Anne DePies will attend the special event. Batman-related celebrities are likely to attend as well.
Batman’s star will be located at the corner of Hollywood and Highland in front of the Guinness World Records Museum. Since it’s the first star for a superhero, Batman’s star will also be recognized in a ceremony with the Guiness World Records.
The Hollywood Walk of Fame currently has 2,780 stars with only 20 given to fictional characters like Batman. The first one went to Mickey Mouse in 1978, followed by Bugs Bunny, Snow White (the only Disney princess so far), Pee-wee Herman, Woody Woodpecker, Big Bird, The Simpsons, Rugrats, Kermit the Frog, Donald Duck, Godzilla, Winnie the Pooh, the Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz, Shrek, Tinkerbell, the Muppets, Snoopy, Minnie Mouse, and Alvin and the Chipmunks.
