Hake’s Auctions next major premier event will open for bids on Monday, July 3, 2023. Auction #238 contains 1,930 lots of historical and pop culture material, led by major comic keys in high grade, a Star Wars movie prop, and much more. The auction will be run for three weeks, closing on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 25-26.
There are over 300 CGC-certified comic books, with almost all of the Silver Age Marvel keys, including multiple copies of a number of issues. Spider-Man’s two biggest keys are offered, led by the high grade Amazing Spider-Man #1 CGC 9.6 with the second appearance and origin of Spider-Man, debut of J. Jonah Jameson and Chameleon, and a Fantastic Four crossover. This is followed closely by Spidey’s first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 CGC 7.5.
The original art section is anchored by a pair of Bronze Age pages: Green Lantern Vol. 2 #80 page 19 by Neal Adams from the great run he had with writer Denny O’Neil; and Star Wars #1 page 26 by Howard Chaykin from the first issue of the comic book adaptation.
The Star Wars section is packed with over 300 great items, including a Death Star “Trench Run” surface panel section movie prop that was used in A New Hope. The prop is accompanied by two of the most highly coveted Star Wars toys: a Boba Fett rocket-firing prototype (L-slot) AFA 75+ and a Star Wars Luke Skywalker (double-telescoping) 12-back-C AFA 85 figure.
Not only are they selling some of the biggest hits in Star Wars toy collecting, Hake’s is also offering rare and high grade Transformers toys. This includes two Series 1 Optimus Prime figures – an AFA 80 (error box/light blue trailer) and an AFA 80 (trademark logo).
The auction contains two items that will appeal to original art, action figure, and DC fans. They have Kenner’s Batman: The Dark Knight Collection Michael Keaton as Batman cardback photo art and Jack Nicholson as the Joker cardback photo art.
The political section is loaded with more than 500 lots from 1788 to present day material. It is led by the rare JFK Big Four buttons from 1960: the Democracy for Jack Kennedy US Capitol portrait button, Give the Key to Kennedy White House portrait button, I’m Gone for John portrait button, and It Seems to Me It’s Kennedy library portrait button.
Additionally, Hake’s is presenting one of their largest offerings of PSA-graded baseball cards that are mostly pre-1900 to the ‘50s, including Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, and others. There’s also a small section of vintage jewelry and timepieces, with highlights being a Patek pocket made for Tiffany and a Giuliano pendant with the original case.
Hake’s Auction #238 will go online on Monday, July 3 at hakes.com.
