Ellie and Otto set out on their heroic adventure to take Ava back to the dome and hopefully get inside so that Ellie can look for her parents. Ryan, still reeling from the mission he was tasked with in the last issue, now has to contend with his abusive father. Now would be a perfect time for a – dare I say it – crossover?

Crossover is a meta comic that sees comic book characters pulled from reality into the “real world.” This has opened the door for the creative team to enter a big playground, including making overt and sly nods to comic book characters. While that’s part of the appeal for this book, they are not overdoing it. The comic isn’t just a “what if?” mashup of characters with little thought beyond a gimmick. It has a good story, both in the larger scope of how real people would respond to superheroes and in the more intimate character arcs.
