The ocean can be a beautiful, majestic thing, but as the characters in Sea of Sorrows are learning, it can also be cold, unforgiving, and downright terrifying. Set after the first World War has ended, a group of treasure hunters have formed alliances to find gold in sunken boats, far out on the North Atlantic. Paranoia and mistrust are already factors for this motley crew, but now sea monsters – real and fictious – are hampering their progress.
Sea of Sorrows is shaping up to be a good horror story. Rich Douek has introduced multiple rough, hardened characters, but even they get scared when sharks and other bloodthirsty creatures enter the picture. Alex Cormack’s art gets dark and almost hard to follow, which further instills the feeling of isolation and danger.
