Jason Strongbow, aka American Eagle, was created by Doug Moench and Ron Wilson and made his debut in Marvel Two-in-One Annual #6 (September 1981). A member of the Navajo Nation in Arizona, Strongbow was attempting to stop a mining company from evacuating a sacred mountain when he discovers a plot by the villain Klaw. While fighting Klaw, Strongbow is hit by his sonic blaster, which combines with uranium to give him enhanced physical abilities. Inspired by the flying eagle, Strongbow takes up the mantle of American Eagle. Not only does he possess superhuman strength, speed, agility, stamina, and sturdiness, but he also has enhanced senses. Additionally, the hero carries a crossbow that fires special bolts.

Using his newfound abilities, American Eagle teams with Ka-Zar, Thing, and Wyatt Wingfoot to defeat Klaw and his minions. Following the defeat of Klaw, American Eagle retuned home as a champion of his tribe. He was among the heroes gathered to take part in the Contest of Champions and later helped Rom the Spaceknight in his fight against the Dire Wraiths. After the events of the 2006 Civil War storyline, American Eagle debuts a new costume without the stereotypical Native American attributes of his original outing. In this later storyline, American Eagle is intent on stopping the vigilante Steel Spider from confronting a group of angry men on his reservation. However, following the unexpected arrival of the Thunderbolts, the Steel Spider persuaded American Eagle to see his side of things. Together the pair fight off against the team, and American Eagle narrowly managed to escape.

While he has made several appearances across Marvel titles throughout the years, the American Eagle has most recently appeared as the newest member of the Agents of Wakanda. These agents essentially serve as a covert Secret Avengers team ready to lend their assistance to Earth’s Mightiest Heroes whenever necessary. With the comic universe still in disarray following the events of 2017’s Secret Empire, the Agents of Wakanda seem armed and ready to kick butt in the immediate future.
