The Halloween season is going to be scary and sweet this year with Killer Cakes, a Halloween-themed baking competition on Prime Video. Matthew Lillard, a horror veteran whose credits include Scream, Thirteen Ghosts, and Five Nights at Freddy’s, and longtime Scooby-Doo voice actor, will host the special.

Bakers will show off their creative skills as they attempt to win a variety of challenges. They will work with horror special effects artists to make scary cakes to frighten, grossout, and impress the judges. Fellow horror genre star Danielle Harris (the Halloween and Hatchet franchises) will be a special judge, along with food artist and cookbook author Nikk Alcaraz (Peculiar Baking).

Blumhouse, the horror studio that brought us the Insidious franchise, M3gan, and Black Phone, and High Noon Entertainment, the creators of Cake Boss, are behind the new show. It will be executive produced by Jason Blum and Gretchen Palek for Blumhouse Television, and Scott Feely for High Noon Entertainment. Ruth Amsel, the executive producer of Food Network’s Halloween Wars and Cake Wars, is serving as showrunner.

The competitors are Dillon Barlow (Houston, TX), Dziedra “Z” Brusberg (Marysville, WA), Deadra “Dee” Compean (Beaumont, TX), Jesse Lesser (Dallas, TX), Mark Lie (Chicago, IL), Shanelle Long (Pensacola, FL), Eszter Summerlin (Gulf Breeze, FL), and Amanda Yother (Rathdrum, ID).

The two-part special premieres on October 8, 2024.
