The D23 expo was filled with family-friendly news about upcoming projects, including the new Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew. They dropped the first trailer and key art for the show, promising childhood adventure for brave young travelers.
The show introduces Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), K.B. (Kyriana Kratter), and Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) as a group of kids who get lost in the galaxy, meet strange allies, and avoid threats as they try to find a way home.
The trailer features territories unfamiliar to Star Wars movies and TV series, showing a typical child’s bedroom, classrooms, even the suburbs. It begins with a bored Wim fantasizing about exploring the galaxy, then he and his friends find what they believe to be a lost Jedi temple.
The group of youngsters set out on an adventure in space where they encounter things far beyond their regular experiences and must dodge the galaxy’s dangerous elements. The trailer ends with the kids in a cell where they meet Jod Na Nawood (Jude Law) who uses the Force to obtain the key to their freedom.
Skeleton Crew was created by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming director) and writer Christopher Ford, who are also serving as showrunners. Additional cast members are Kerry Condon, Tunde Adebimpe, and Nick Frost who voices the droid SM-33.
The show will start streaming on Disney+ on December 3, 2024.
