Legendary Comics; $14.99
Black Bag #1 introduces readers to Renear and Robert, an attractive, wealthy couple. But things aren’t quite as they seem because Renear is far from the socialite wife she appears to be. In fact, she has a secret government job eliminating terroristic threats and her husband is none the wiser.
Renear takes on a job in Paris where she must neutralize a couple on their second honeymoon who are planning to sell nuclear secrets. Amid the current story, readers get to see a bit of her back story – how she was recruited and who she was during her formative years.
Black Bag is written by Chris Roberson, who crafted an engaging and interesting story. Renear is intelligent and likeable, the very definition of don’t judge a book by its cover. Her complicated life is depicted with all the problematic situations she’s likely to encounter without turning her into a tortured hero or thrill seeking psychotic.
The art is provided by J.B. Bastos with colors by Jamie Grant. Together, they create descriptive, yet economic art, with a variety of panel styles to keep the reader interested.
