After months (perhaps years) of speculation, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has announced the cast for the highly anticipated Fantastic Four movie. The film about Marvel’s First Family will star Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/the Thing.

Pascal has become an in demand actor based on his work as the protective bounty hunter Din Djarin in The Mandalorian and the smuggler turned guide Joel in The Last of Us. Kirby is lauded for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in The Crown and is an Oscar nominee (Pieces of a Woman). Quinn had a standout performance as likeable outcast Eddie Munson in Stranger Things. Moss-Bachrach is a recent Emmy winner for his role as Richie in The Bear.

Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct the movie from a script by Josh Friedman, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.

This will be the third live-action incarnation of the team to reach theaters since the 2000s. 20th Century Fox released films in 2005 and ’07 starring Ioan Gruffudd, Jessica Alba, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. Then in 2015 a new version of the team was created, starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell.

Marvel did not reveal story details at this time, such as which villain or villains they will face. The movie is expected to start filming in the summer of 2024.

In addition to announcing the cast, Disney moved around a few release dates on their MCU schedule. Thunderbolts has moved up to May 2, 2025, while The Fantastic Four was pushed back to July 25, 2025. Other films on the MCU’s 2025 schedule include Captain America: Brave New World on February 14 and Blade on November 7.
