Lost in Space star Mark Goddard died on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from pulmonary fibrosis. He was 87 years old.

Goddard portrayed the easily irritated pilot Don West on Lost in Space, starring in the sci-fi classic’s entire three-season run from 1965 to 1968.

He was born Charles Harvey Goddard on July 24, 1936, in Lowell, Massachusetts, and was a star athlete in high school. He studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, then his career began in the late 1950s with a starring role in the Western TV series Johnny Ringo. This was followed by another starring role in the crime drama TV series The Detectives and in the sitcom Many Happy Returns.

Throughout the ‘60s, Goddard did guest spots on shows like The Beverly Hillbillies, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, and Mod Squad. He continued focusing on TV work in Petrocelli, Quincy M.E., Barnaby Jones, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. Goddard made a cameo in the 1998 film adaptation of Lost in Space, and his last role was playing Don West again in the straight to video movie Lost in Space: The Epilogue.
