Treat Williams, the multifaceted actor known for Everwood, died on Monday, June 12, 2023. His agent Barry McPherson reported that Williams died in a motorcycle accident when a car cut him off while he was making a turn. He was 71 years old.
On the family drama Everwood, Williams played widowed father Dr. Andy Brown who moved his family from Manhattan to Everwood, Colorado, after his wife’s death. He anchored the series during its four-season run from 2002 to 2006.
He was born Richard Treat Williams on December 1, 1951 in Stamford, Connecticut. Williams’ film debut was in Deadly Hero in 1975, and a year later, he was in The Ritz, Marathon Man, and The Eagle Has Landed.
As his film career was beginning, Williams was also making a mark on the stage. He played Danny Zuko in a Broadway production of Grease for three years starting in ’78. His stage work also included Once in a Lifetime, The Pirates of Penzance, Love Letters, and Follies.
His big movie break came in the film version of the Broadway musical Hair, then he was in 1941, and played an Echo Base Trooper in The Empire Strikes Back. Williams was in Prince of the City, Once Upon a Time in America, he played the titular character in the J. Edgar Hoover TV movie, and he was in Dead Heat.
Williams was in an episode of Tales from the Crypt, he voice acted in Batman: The Animated Series, was in Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, and The Late Shift TV movie. His work in the ‘90s included Mulholland Falls, he was Xander Drax in The Phantom, and he starred in The Devil’s Own, Deep Rising, and The Deep End of the Ocean.
He starred in three of The Substitute movies, he was in Miss Congeniality 2: Armed & Fabulous, a few episodes of Brothers & Sisters, What Happens in Vegas, 127 Hours, and he voiced himself in The Simpsons. Williams was in an episode of Leverage, had a recurring role in Chicago Fire, recently he was in a few TV Christmas movies like Christmas on the Square, starred in the Chesapeake Shores series, and had several guest appearances on Blue Bloods.
