Though the series may have concluded in 2007, Dark Horse has chosen to reprint the first issue of Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey’s Action Philosophers! series as part of its “1 for 1” program. Readers interested in learning some philosophy, rhetoric and sociology will be on board for this, though it’s a highly surreal and entertaining look at Plato and Nietzsche.

The stories look at the lives of philosophers, who are decked out in severely out-of-character clothing, such as Lucha Libre masks, while also maintaining a consistent stream of jokes and gags. It manages to be educational without being boring, and anyone who ever took a college philosophy class is bound to love it. The hardcover edition of the collected series releases later in the fall.
