KaBOOM!; $29.99

This hardcover collection of the Adventure Time spin-off, Candy Capers, stars two characters that otherwise don’t get much time in the spotlight: Peppermint Butler and Cinnamon Bun. Finn and Jake go missing, and as Princess Bubblegum is too busy with science to look for them herself, she puts Peppermint Butler in charge of the Banana Guard and allows Cinnamon Bun to “help” as best as he can. And though that synopsis may sound like a fever dream to some, it’s just another day in the Land of Ooo for the Adventure Time crew.

There have been several spin-off miniseries from the main Adventure Time comic series over the last few years, including Marceline and the Scream Queens and Banana Guard Academy, and Candy Capers was just as enjoyable as the rest. The stories have tended to focus on the supporting cast of characters, rather than on Finn and Jake, making them good reads for longtime fans of the show. Candy Capers’ whimsical writing and colorful art makes it a perfect addition to any Adventure Time fan’s bookshelf.
