Angela del Toro: Becoming White Tiger
Angela del Toro is the fourth character to use the name White Tiger. She is part of the legacy that started with the Jade Tiger from K’un-L’un that was broken into pieces and turned into amulets to be used by the Sons of the Tiger. Her uncle Hector Ayala found one of the amulets when the Sons disbanded and he became the White Tiger.
Created by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev, Angela was introduced in Daredevil Vol. 2 #58 (November 2003) as a federal agent who was part of the investigation into whether or not Matt Murdock was Daredevil. But when Ayala’s amulets were passed on to her, she was overcome by the weight of potentially becoming a superhero. She knew how dangerous the lifestyle was, having seen her partner, agent Harold Driver, killed during the Daredevil investigation. Wondering why anyone would become a superhero, she reached out to Matt, offering to close the case against him if he would help her.
First, Matt wanted to see if she could stack up to being a heroine, so he challenged her to climb St. Catherine’s Cathedral then they sparred on the roof. Seeing that she could handle herself, Matt then sent her to stop a robbery in progress. Once she thwarted the theft, the store owner was overcome by gratitude and Angela started to understand what she could do as a vigilante. Soon after this she saved Daredevil from crime lord Alexander Bont and officially became the masked heroine White Tiger.
