Archie; $4.99

Hiram Lodge’s ambition and greed have had a negative impact on Riverdale, pushing people out of their homes and making the new upscale vision exclusive to wealthier citizens. Archie Andrews has become the superhero Mr. Justice, determined to save the town – though some don’t agree with his methods for doing so.

Each issue of Archie is Mr. Justice is told from a different perspective. Issue two is told by Veronica Lodge, who liked Mr. Justice at first, but comes to dislike the hero when he disagrees with her father’s vision. When Mr. Justice crosses a line, Veronica takes matters into her own hands, becoming the superhero, Visionary.

This series is really interesting. Having different characters tell the story provides several perspectives on complicated situations. The story itself presents a real situation – someone wealthy and ambitious ignoring the negative impact their project has on people at lower income brackets. For this issue, writer Amanda Deibert does a very good job of giving Veronica depth as she deals with the difficult situation. Line artist Brent Schoonover and colorist Glenn Whitmore bring the turmoil to life by showing the emotion and impact of what is happening in Riverdale.
