Back to the Future #1
IDW; $3.99
Back to the Future #1 tells two tales, one of the future from the distant past and one of the past told in present tense. First in “When Marty Met Emmett” in the early 1890s, Doc Brown tells his children how he met young Marty McFly in the early 1980s. Then in “Looking for a Few Good Scientists,” set in 1943 at the California Institute of Technology, young scientist Brown seeks to join a new project overseen by a famous scientist.
Issue one was a fun companion piece to the movie trilogy. It fulfills our Back to the Future needs, complete with convoluted science, Marty being bullied, Marty rising to the bait of a bully, and Doc teaching him a lesson through his scatterbrained antics. The family friendly series should be an entertaining romp with fertile ground for lighthearted future stories. “When Marty Met Emmett” story by Bob Gale, script by Gale and John Barber, and art by Brent Schoonover. “Looking for a Few Good Scientists” story by Gale, script by Erik Burnham, and art by Dan Schoening.
