Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Special Featurette

The theatrical world of the Hunger Games is expanding with the prequel, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Based on the book by Suzanne Collins, the film will follow future president Coriolanus Snow as he becomes the mentor to District 12’s spirited tribute Lucy Gray Baird as she prepares for the 10th annual Hunger Games.

Just a few weeks before The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes arrives in theaters, Lionsgate released a behind the scenes special feature that welcomes fans back. Clocking in at nearly five minutes, the featurette provides more context on the movie’s premise and making of the film. It introduces young Snow and new characters like Lucy, Head Gamemaker Volumnia Gaul, and Hunger Games creator Casca Highbottom.

Director Francis Lawrence talks about the crew who returned to the series, the setting and look of Panem, and the music’s impact on the movie. It closes with a haunting scene of Lucy singing “The Hanging Tree” – a song that Hunger Games fans will recall original series star Jennifer Lawrence singing as Katniss Everdeen.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes stars Tom Blyth as Snow, Rachel Zegler as Lucy, Viola Davis as Volumnia, Peter Dinklage as Casca, Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow, and Fionnula Flanagan as Grandma’am. The movie debuts in theaters on November 17, 2023.
