Title: “Mystery in Space”
Synopsis:
Adam Strange comes looking for help from the Justice League, and ends up on the run with Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

Writer: Jack C. Harris
Penciler: Al Milgrom
Inker:
Murphy Anderson

Review: Looking for some Rann-Thanagar War action, old school style? You could do worse than this first installment of a Showcase three-parter. Jack C. Harris’ story is a disjointed romp; he dives right into the action, then slams on the brakes for some backstory monologues. The pacing rollercoaster continues when the villain arrives: Action … and more back story. Still, this tale is good fun, and ends at the brink of war. The whole thing is ably illustrated by the odd art team of Al Milgrom and Murphy Anderson; Milgrom brings solid storytelling, while his pencils get a nice polish from Anderson.

Grade: B

Cool factor: A fun Hawkman adventure, topped with a fabulous Joe Kubert cover.

Character quotable: “I’ve shifted myself into the dimension of shadows – and we’re going to mix it up – man to man!” – Hawkman, a hero never lacking for testosterone.
