Captain America #25
Marvel; $4.99
A lot of hype has been building around this particular issue, which sees Sam Wilson/The Falcon take over as the new Captain America. Despite the cover asking “Who is the new Captain America?” it shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone who has kept up with Marvel’s announcements over the last couple of months.
Captain America #25 sufficiently wraps up the current Steve Rogers storyline, in which Arnim Zola attempted to invade Earth from Dimension Z and was thwarted by the Avengers. Most importantly, though, was the fact that the super soldier serum in Rogers’ veins had been neutralized, and he rapidly aged into an old man because of it.
The issue really only deals with the aftermath of these events. It features Rogers announcing Wilson as the new Cap, and establishes a base which the two new Marvel titles, All-New Captain America and Captain America and the Mighty Avengers, will start from. But it does that beautifully and is definitely worth picking up, especially for those who are going to be following the further adventures of Sam Wilson.
