ComicConnect’s July Mega Monthly Auction starts closing on August 12, 2024, and they are also busy adding vintage comics and original art to the upcoming Event Auction 59. New finds include a Superman #1 and the birth of the Marvel Universe in Marvel Comics #1, plus Jack Kirby and Joe Simon’s Manhunter intro in Adventure Comics #73. There are more firsts with Captain America Comics #1, Wonder Woman’s first cover on Sensation Comics #1, and 1941’s Green Lantern #1.

Ruben Blades’ Detective Comics run includes Batman’s second cover appearance on issue 29, alongside his introduction in issue 27, and pre-Batman issues going back to issue 1. Barry Allen’s Flash speeds into the start of DC’s Silver Age in Showcase #4, and the Fantastic Four does the same for Marvel in Fantastic Four #1 6.5, alongside Dr. Doom’s debut in Fantastic Four #5.

Event Auction 59’s new original art listings include Mac Raboy’s preliminary cover art for Captain Marvel Jr. #31 (his last for the book), plus Jack Kirby’s art (with Wally Wood finishing) on a signed page from Tales of Suspense #72 featuring the Red Skull. There’s double-Thor action as Kirby sends the God of Thunder time-traveling in Journey Into Mystery #86, and John Byrne has Thor unleashing Mjolnir in a half-splash from Avengers #165.

Featured original art includes Steve Ditko’s ghastly image for the Ghostly Haunts #27 cover, Mike Zeck’s Captain America #269 cover that showcases his talent on the title, and a signed Frank Miller page from Daredevil #172, with Klaus Janson inking Daredevil, the Kingpin, Bullseye, Vanessa Fisk, and Turk.
