ComicConnect has concluded the compiling of consignments for the Monday, February 26, 2024, start of Event Auction 57, with new finds in comic books, original art, VHS tapes, pulps, and memorabilia.

“There’s a beautiful Fantastic Four #48 at 9.8, with only 50 copies in the CGC Census at that grade. We’ve also added a gorgeous Detective Comics #27 CGC 6.5, an entry level Superman #1 CGC 1.0, an Avengers #4 8.0 signed by Stan Lee, and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 CGC 9.8 signed by Kevin Eastman,” ComicConnect President Vincent Zurzolo said.

Additionally, ComicConnect’s Event Auction has unique finds for the growing collector’s market for foreign comics. In addition to new looks at classic titles, Event Auction 57 has received printings of rare Golden Age newspaper tabloids, including “Servicio Secreto,” a Spanish translation of 1939 daily black and white Superman strips from Italy, with artists guessing at the colors of the Man of Steel’s costume. All these finds are in addition to the Event Auction’s selections from the Puget Sound Collection, The PACole Collection, and the Jon Berk Collection.

Original art offerings feature one of John Buscema’s Silver Surfer: Judgment Day graphic novel splash pages. There’s a page from Incredible Hulk #377 penciled by Dale Keown with Bob McLeod inking, as signed by scripter Peter David, plus Joe Quesada’s amazing cover for 1992’s X-Factor Annual #7, and Todd McFarlane 1989 battle art with Spidey getting soaked in Amazing Spider-Man #319. The memorabilia selection includes the 1940 trademark registration for Prince Namor, the Sub-Mariner in the original United States Patent Office folder.

Surprising finds in graded VHS tapes include a Back to the Future VHS autographed by Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F. Wilson. There’s also a 1979 VHS of The Beatles Live at Shea Stadium (still pulled from home video over copyright claims), and a rare high grade VHS of 1987’s cult horror anthology Tales from the QuadeaD Zone, with only an estimated 100 copies originally printed.

Pulps in the auction include Doc Savage Magazine (January 1945), featuring Hitler thwarted from faking his death. ComicConnect is even offering a collection of Nicolas Cage Comic Book Gallery Display Frames that were custom crafted for the actor’s private collection.

“There’s a lot to talk about as Event Auction 57 gets ready to launch on February 26, and we’re always looking to work with buyers and sellers,” Zurzolo said. “People can reach out to our staff through peterb@comicconnect.com, with Matt Williams taking VHS consignments at mattw@comicconnect.com – and calls for comics and original art are always welcome at (212) 260-4147 or (888) 779-7377!”
