Comic artist Fiona Staples is known for her work in popular titles like Saga, Archie, THUNDER Agents, and more. A native of Calgary, Alberta, she studied at the Alberta College of Art and Design.

Her first published work was “Amphibious Nightmare” which appeared in About Comics’ 24 Hour Comics Day Highlight 2005. In 2006, she joined writer Andrew Foley on Done to Death, and followed that by working on the Trick ‘r Treat graphic novel adaptation of the modern cult classic horror film of the same name. Staples pencilled and inked The Secret History of the Authority: Hawksmoor and colored the 2000 AD story “Button Man.”

Staples met writer Brian K. Vaughan after she had worked with Steve Niles on Mystery Society. Together they developed Saga, the popular fantasy/space opera published by Image Comics. The comic has been described as having elements of Star Wars, Romeo and Juliet, Game of Thrones, and Lord of the Rings. Staples designed the look of the characters and the ships and also provides painted covers and hand-letters the text. Staples and Vaughan have been working together on the title since 2012.

In 2015, she and Mark Waid relaunched Archie for the character’s 75th anniversary. Rather than keeping to the established Archie art style, Staples employed her own distinctive style, giving the characters a new, updated look. Staples other recent work has included cover art for Chrononauts, The Wicked + The Divine, Sex Criminals, and Labyrinth: Coronation.
