Gabriele Dell’Otto is an Italian artist and writer who specializes in comic books, as well as science illustrations, calendars, and cover art for video games and magazines. Dell’Otto started working with Marvel’s European division in 1998, producing covers, posters, and more art that appeared in Italy, France, and Germany. He also worked with DC and other publishers like MG Publishing, IPP, and Egmont Ehapa in Italy.

In 2002 he worked with writer Brian Michael Bendis, providing art for Marvel’s Secret War miniseries and the Secret War: From the Files of Nick Fury #1. A few years later, he did cover and promotional art for the Italian version of the Marvel: Ultimate Alliance video game. He created covers for the Annihilation miniseries and he published Tales, an illustrated book.

Dell’Otto was the artist on X-Force miniseries titled, Sex and Violence, and was the artist on New Avengers Annual #1 and penciled issues of Avenging Spider-Man. He illustrated spine images for The Official Marvel Graphic Novel Collection, which produced a landscape image when all of the spines are put in order.

His cover art has appeared on many prominent titles, including Fantastic Four, X-Factor, Ghost Rider, Invincible Iron Man, Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, Daredevil, Winter Soldier, New Avengers, Fear Itself, The Deadly Hands of Kung Fu Omnibus, Captain America: Steve Rogers, Batman, Dark Nights: Metal, Detective Comics, and The Joker 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular.

Dell’Otto also provided a rare variant cover for The Amazing Spider-Man #667, which is now offered in Hake’s Auction #243. His dynamic cover of Spidey hanging upside down and surveying the scene below him was a 1:100 retailer incentive variant. This copy is a high grade CGC 9.8 Signature Series signed by writer Dan Slott and artist Humberto Ramos. It is estimated that there are approximately 200 copies of this variant cover in circulation, making this a very limited and coveted Spider-Man comic. Only 9 signed copies are noted in the CGC Census, this being the only known copy signed by both Slott and Ramos.
