Creator Profile: Jamal Igle
Jamal Igle is a comic artist and editor, an art director, animation storyboard artist, and marketing executive. In comics, he is known for creating Molly Danger, about an eternally young hero who protects her hometown, and for inking and coloring books like Supergirl and Firestorm.
Igle broke into the comics industry when he was 17 years old as an intern at DC. He attended the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan and then the School of Visual Arts where he studied the work of Norman Rockwell, Bob Peak, and others.
Once he finished college, Igle became a junior art director for an advertising agency, and started working for small comics publishers like Majestic Entertainment. He joined Sony Animation as a storyboard artist for animated series like Max Steel and Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles.
Igle was contacted by Marvel editor Bobbie Chase to illustrate the New Warriors and Iron Fist/Wolverine with writer Jay Faerber. He provided art for the all-ages Race Against Time miniseries and The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass biographical graphic novel. He worked on Green Lantern, Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and G.I. Joe, as well as his creator owned series, Venture.
Igle became a regular artist on the Firestorm series in 2004 then he signed an exclusive contract with DC a year later. He became the series artist on Nightwing and then Ray during the New 52 relaunch. During that period, he worked on several DC titles, including Action Comics, Green Lantern Corps, Superman, Teen Titans, and World’s Finest.
After his contract ended, he started with Action Lab Comics as co-director of Marketing and Press Relations, eventually becoming Vice President of Marketing. He has been an instructor at the Art Students League of New York and taught at the School of Visual Arts.
