Dave Olbrich Joins SDCC as Marketing & Publications Editor
Dave Olbrich has been hired by San Diego Comic Convention as their new Marketing & Publications Editor.
Olbrich is an editor and comics industry professional who co-founded and published Malibu Comics and he helped to launch Image Comics. He was an important figure in creating the Kirby Awards and the Eisner Awards. More recently, he has been producing and hosting Geekview Tavern, a YouTube show about comics and the industry.
Early in his career, Olbrich worked at Fantagraphics as the promotion manager and as the managing editor of Amazing Heroes magazine. He was the creator and original administrator of the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards, before transfering them into the non-profit San Diego Comic Convention.
As the publisher of Malibu, Olbrich led the company’s work in creator-owned titles and comics based on licensed properties. After helping to found Image Comics, he was pivotal in the launch of the Ultraverse characters and titles in 1994 and the Bravura imprint in 1995. After Malibu, Olbrich worked for the video game magazine, GameFan, and was the director of US publishing for French publisher, Les Humanoïdes Associés.
Olbrich has attended every meeting of the San Diego Comic Convention since 1985.

I’ve recently been hired to join the incredible team at the San Diego Comic Convention organization as the Marketing and Publications Editor,” Olbrich wrote on Facebook. “This is the fabulous, world-renowned non-profit that operates Comic-Con International: San Diego, WonderCon (in Anaheim) and the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park, San Diego. It is a great privilege to join this group. I’m excited for the future. Onward and upward!”
