Roll for initiative and break a leg! The first officially licensed Dungeons & Dragons theatrical stage show is in the works. Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro are working with Curious Hedgehog and Showpath Entertainment on the production, which arrives in May 2024.
The Twenty-Sided Tavern, which is a part of D&D’s 50th anniversary festivities, will be an interactive experience. The audience will act as the fourth player by voting on where the story should go, which characters will appear, and what they will explore.
The cast will consist of five actors portraying over 30 playable characters who will tell the story, solve puzzles, and engage in combat. The show is currently being cast and they are looking for performers who have improv experience and knowledge of D&D.
The show will be produced by Curious Hedgehog’s David Carpenter, Sarah Davis Reynolds, and David Andrew Laws, and Showpath Entertainment’s David Hutchinson and Nathan Brine.
“As passionate gamers and D&D players, the partners at Curious Hedgehog set off on a quest to redefine what a live interactive experience can be. What started as a D&D-style RPG onstage with folding tables and a box of props has grown beyond our wildest imagination,” Carpenter said.
The Twenty-Sided Tavern will be performed at Stage 42, located at 422 W. 42nd Street in New York City. Previews begin on April 19, 2024, and it will officially open on May 5. Presale tickets will be available at thetwentysidedtavern.com starting February 29.
