Vlad the Impaler has gotten his hands on a magical remote and is using it to travel through the multiverse of movies to recruit an army. The Time-Space cops have tasked Elvira, who has already defeated Vlad on previous occasions, to stop him from completing his mission. In the first issue she interrupted his recruitment of movie Draculas, and now they are both searching for the lumbering form of Frankenstein’s monster.
The first issue of Elvira in Monsterland read like a race, as Elvira and Vlad flitted through movie history and met many versions of Dracula. For the second issue, writer David Avallone slows things down as they spend most of the time in the 1931 classic Frankenstein. Our heroine has an important revelation about the villain all while cracking jokes, breaking the fourth wall, and making very funny changes to the movie. Artist Kewber Baal fills each page with the right amount of detail to establish the setting and expressive characters that are comedically on point.
