247 Comics; crowdfunded

Dr. Lucas Zhang, a renowned scientist, has developed a technology that allows the human mind to control robot bodies. The next step for him is the ability to transfer a human consciousness from a dying body – or even just an aged one – into a robot, thus potentially extending the person’s life infinitely.

Into this already heady science fiction set-up, mix in a popular theme park, a giant entertainment corporation, weapons systems, private military contractors, and huge, huge ethical concerns. The result is Evermind, a three-issue (thus far) comic book series from writer-artist Sean Chen, actor Daniel Wu, and colorist Tom Chu.

Chen, known among other things for his stints on Valiant’s X-O Manowar and Marvel’s Iron Man, has been a master of portraying technology since the earliest days of his career. Over the years, his depictions of people and action have developed from really good to phenomenal. Now he’s added writer to his credits.

These three issues are packed with more characters, science fiction, action, adventure, and ethical conundrums than most titles with twice as many issues. Entertaining and thought provoking, Evermind has an incredible amount of potential, and it will be interesting to see if its creators bring us more.
