Alien Books is breaking one of the rules of the Valiant Universe in the four-issue event series Resurgence of the Valiant Universe by resurrecting a deceased character. Charlene DuPre, aka Flamingo the superhero with flame powers who was a part of the Resistance that fought Toyo Harada is back from the dead.
“If you’re not a longtime Valiant reader, you might not know that in this universe, dead means dead,” Alien Books Director Matias Timarchi said. “This rule has been followed very closely for many years but when you have a truly nefarious villain like Dr. Silk involved, you shouldn’t be surprised if he breaks a few things, namely the barrier between life and death, on his path to world domination.”
In Resurgence of the Valiant Universe, the once infamous villain Dr. Silk is now bringing hope to the world by promising to make humans immortal. The entire world is divided on the subject, setting off a situation that needs the attention of heroes like X-O Manowar, Bloodshot, Eternal Warrior, Ninjak, Livewire, Rai, Ivar, and others.
“We’ve been teasing that someone would be coming back from the dead in Resurgence and if you’ve paid attention to the cover reveals or picked up the preview comic at San Diego Comic-Con, you probably already have a good idea of who it is,” Alien Books/Valiant Comics Editor in Chief Lysa Hawkins said. “Well, the cat’s out of the bag now and we can share that Dr. Silk has resurrected Charlee Dupree, aka Flamingo, as ‘proof’ of his power over life and death. How will our heroes react after seeing their old friend return from the dead? You’ll have to read the book to find out, we’re not giving everything away today!”
The series is co-written by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad, Fred Van Lente, and A.J. Ampadu, with art by Guillermo Fajardo and Julio Azamor. The first issue has a main cover by Fajardo and variants by Agustin Alessio, Juan José Ryp, Mico Suayan, and Fajardo.
Resurgence of the Valiant Universe #1 will be in comic shops on September 18, 2024.
