A Gargoyles live-action show based on the animated series is in early development at Disney+. Director Gary Dauberman (Annabelle Comes Home) will executive produce, write, and serve as showrunner. James Wan (Aquaman) will also executive produce, and the show will be made under his Atomic Monster banner.
The animated series, created by Greg Weisman, followed a group of gargoyles who were moved from a castle in Scotland to New York City. Once there, they woke up from a spell and became New York’s protectors against supernatural threats. It ran for 78 episodes and three seasons from 1994 to 1997, then continued on as a comic in the 2000s.
Prior to Gargoyles, Dauberman and Wan worked together on multiple creature feature projects. They collaborated on the Annabelle movies, The Nun, the short-lived Swamp Thing series, and they are set to work together on a film adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot.
