Garth Ennis, the co-creator of The Boys and Preacher, will see another adaption of one of his boundary pushing comics. Crossed, the comic he co-created with artist Jacen Burrows, is getting a movie adaptation. Ennis wrote the script for the movie, which has been acquired by indie film and music producer, Six Studios.
Crossed is set during a pandemic when a disease changes people by making them give in to their worst impulses. It plays out like a zombie apocalypse story with the illness that spreads easily, violence, and fear, except in this story people are as intelligent as they were before they got sick. The illness also marks the afflicted with a rash shaped like a cross on their faces.
The first Crossed series ran for 10 issues from 2008 to 2010, then David Lapham wrote Crossed: Family Values, Crossed 3D, and Crossed: Psychopath. Crossed: Badlands featured multiple writers and artists, and the webcomics Crossed: Wish You Were Here and Crossed: Dead or Alive were published from 2012 to 2014.
Carl Choi of Six Studios, Ben Hung of Retro Entertainment, and Kevin Levin of Nightsky Productions will produce the movie. The project was developed by Ennis, Hung, and Levin who brought it to Six Studios. The production house is now seeking a director for the movie and it is expected to have a $2-3 million budget.
