There’s always an element of trepidation when you have a series on which everything is clicking and then – for whatever reason – one of the members of the creative team is out. Writer Geoff Johns and co-creator Gary Frank have been in synch since the first issue of Geiger, so the last few, which have featured art by Paul Pelletier could have been a risk.
Except it’s Paul Pelletier and that’s apparently no risk at all.
Sure, it’s a bit of a different look than Gary Frank. How could it not be? But Pelletier is an outstanding storyteller in his own right, and the transition has been as seamless as possible.
This issue sees Geiger, his two-headed wolf, Barney, and Nate the Nuclear Knight return some runaway children to a seemingly idyllic town, one mostly unaffected by the Unknown War. The drama, of course, comes with that word: mostly.
Geiger continues to be an outstanding read, maybe the best of the Ghost Machine titles.
