Goosebumps: Secrets of the Swamp #1

Blake, a bored preteen, is spending the summer with her aunt…who happens to live near Fever Swamp. Though Blake plans to play the video game Lore Hunt all summer, her aunt insists that she meets some local kids. Next thing Blake knows, she’s meeting Lily, Lore Hunt’s best gamer, who convinces her to explore Fever Swamp after the sun has gone down.

This is another solid start for a Goosebumps book at IDW. This take on The Werewolf of Fever Swamp is written by Marieke Nijkamp who gives the girls some teenage attitude but keeps them likeable and interesting. The art by Yasmin Florez Montanez and colors by Rebecca Nalty set the scene very well, giving the locale a nice, small town feel during the day and ramping up the spooky tension for Fever Swamp’s nighttime trek.
