Burt Young, who was best known as Paulie from the Rocky films, has passed away at the age of 83 on October 8, 2023. The Academy Award-nominated actor was born April 30, 1940, in Queens, NY as Gerald Tommaso DeLouise. After a stint in the Marines, where he started boxing, he boxed professionally as a young man.
Once he turned to acting, he found a true calling. Among his many credits – more than 160 in both film and television – were roles in Chinatown, Once Upon a Time in America and The Bishop of Rome of Greenwich Village.
It was in the Rocky films, beginning with the original Rocky in 1976, that he landed his most recognizable and enduring character.
“Rocky received 10 Academy Award nominations, including Young’s for Best Supporting Actor, and won three Oscars, including Best Picture,” Deadline reported.
