Actor Michael Cole, who was known for The Mod Squad, died on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. According to his representatives, Cole died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. He was 84 years old.
The Mod Squad was an edgy police procedural about three rebellious young people who became undercover cops. Cole played long-haired hippy cop Pete Cochran, one of the three leads alongside Peggy Lipton and Clarence Williams III. He starred in all five seasons of the show from 1968 to 1973. He reprised the role for The Return of Mod Squad TV movie in ’79.
Cole was born on July 3, 1940, in Madison, Wisconsin. His acting career began in 1961 in Forbid Them Not, then he was in an episode of Gunsmoke, Chucka, and The Last Child TV movie. He worked mostly in TV, appearing in Police Story, Wonder Woman, The Eddie Capra Mysteries, The Love Boat, Beyond Westworld, and Fantasy Island.
He was in Vega$, CHiPs, Murder, She Wrote, the It miniseries, and he had the recurring role of Harlan Barrett in General Hospital. Cole was also in Diagnosis Murder, ER, Mr. Brooks, and his final roles were in the 2008 TV movie Grave Misconduct and the 2010 short film Father’s Day.
