Jackman Dons Classic Wolverine Suit for Deadpool 3

Cue that sweet ‘90s theme song, because the yellow X-Men costume has made its way into Deadpool 3.

Last fall it was announced that Hugh Jackman had joined the franchise, returning to his X-Men role as Wolverine. Now, he and Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds are stoking fan enthusiasm even more with a new image of the pair suited up. What’s especially exciting, is that Jackman is sporting the yellow and blue suit from the beloved 1990s cartoon, X-Men: The Animated Series.

Fans of the animated series have been hoping to see the X-Men in the yellow suits since the first X-Men movie was released in 2000. They have been mentioned a few times, starting with Cyclops poking fun at them in the first movie. After Wolverine complained about their matching all black suits, Cyclops asked him, “What would you prefer, yellow spandex?” A deleted scene for The Wolverine showed the titular hero opening a case that revealed a yellow costume, but it was never worn.

This wasn’t the only significant Deadpool 3 headline in the news this week. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jennifer Garner is reprising her role as Elektra. They reported that “multiple sources” informed them of her return, though Garner and the Deadpool 3 camp have yet to make a comment.

Garner first played Elektra in the 2003 Daredevil movie opposite Ben Affleck as the Man Without Fear. Two years later she starred in the much-maligned spinoff Elektra, and has since put down the antiheroine’s sais.

Deadpool 3 is currently in production and has a planned theatrical release date of May 3, 2024.
