Archie Comics; $3.99

Along with Riverdale High’s new principal came a number of new teachers who have a fondness for handing out detention slips. Jughead has managed to avoid the detention room – up until the point where he fails to complete an obstacle course. His “boyish good looks” didn’t help him, despite his best efforts. After nodding off, Juggie enters the world of the Time Police – a nice throwback to the same storyline of decades past – in order to take down the future descendent of Reggie, who has been terrorizing Riverdale. Unfortunately, he wakes up to the harsh reality of his school’s staff plotting against him…

The book manages to blend Jughead’s daydreaming with enough of his real world antics to stay interesting on both fronts. While his Time Police adventure is self-contained, it contains enough action to balance out the straight drama of Jughead’s run-in with the new principal. Chip Zdarsky and Erica Henderson are doing a great job with this property, which has matched the reboot of Archie in pure entertainment value.
