Lilo & Stitch Storybook Gets First US Release
Lilo and Stitch are best friends united by their devotion to each other and the beauty of Hawaiian culture. Those subjects are at the center of ‘Ohana Means Family: Musings on Everyday Life, a storybook that was originally released in the UK. It will be available to American readers for the first time via Dynamite in June 2025.
The book is written and illustrated by Denise Shimabukuro, who called on her experiences of growing up in Hawaii and the Aloha Spirit that connects people on the islands. She crafted her memories and observations into an original storybook starring Disney’s beloved characters, Lilo and Stitch.
“This book is inspired by memories of my childhood, as well as the stories exchanged within my ‘ohana,” Shimabukuro said. “Through these treasured moments, I hope to share a better understanding of this special concept with others around the world.”
The book is presented as a mix of comic storytelling and illustrated prose in a group of short tales that follow Stitch, Lilo, Nani, and the rest of the members of their extended ‘ohana. Written for young readers, the 64-page book measures 7” x 9-3/4” and is in hardcover format.
‘Ohana Means Family will arrive in comic shops on May 7, a few weeks before the live-action remake of Lilo & Stich hits theaters on May 23. It is solicited in Diamond Comic Distributors’ March 2025 PREVIEWS catalog.
