Marceline Gone Adrift #1
KaBOOM!; $3.99
Finn and Jake take a backseat to their female friends in the latest spin-off series of Adventure Time, Marceline Gone Adrift. Marceline (of Vampire Queen fame) struggles to write new tunes after her tour with the Scream Queens, while Princess Bubblegum seeks revenge on some aliens who called her a “hairy scab.” But when Marcy gets shocked by a mysterious power, Peebs ends up having to capture her and shoot her into orbit before she destroys the entire Candy Kingdom.
The writing by Meredith Gran is quick and clever, capturing the essence of the popular characters from the Cartoon Network show, and the art by Carey Pietsch is simple and expressive. The miniseries spin-offs of the main Adventure Time comic have been able to shine a light on the side characters, including Peppermint Butler, Cinnamon Bun, and others – and while Marceline and P-Bubs were featured in Marceline and the Scream Queens, it’s been more than enough time since that run ended for Marceline Gone Adrift to not feel like an overload.
