Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel’s Masters of the Universe live-action movie has cast four important roles. James Purefoy (The Following) will star as King Randor, Charlotte Riley (Edge of Tomorrow) is portraying Queen Marlena, Morena Baccarin (Deadpool) will star as the Sorceress, and Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Vikings: Valhalla) has been cast as Fisto.

They are joining Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, Sam. C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, and Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man. The movie will be directed by Travis Knight from a screenplay by Chris Buttler.

Masters of the Universe was introduced in 1982 as a Mattel toy line that quickly transitioned into an animated series. The show starred He-Man, a Conan-like hero who is in a constant battle with Skeletor, a villain determined to conquer Eternia and learn the magical secrets of Castle Grayskull.

In the multi-media franchise, King Randor is the father of Prince Adam and has no idea that his son is He-Man, however, Queen Marlena is suspicious that he might be the hero. The Sorceress protects the secrets and wisdom of Castle Grayskull, though her powers only work inside the castle. Fisto is a muscular warrior who started as a villain, ruling the forest for Skeletor, but he eventually became a hero.

Purefoy played Mark Antony in Rome, he starred as a notorious serial killer in The Following, and he was in A Knight’s Tale, Resident Evil, and Hap and Leonard.

Riley’s credits include playing Nance in Edge of Tomorrow, an MI6 agent in London Has Fallen, and she portrayed May Carleton in Peaky Blinders.

Baccarin is known for her role as Vanessa in the Deadpool movie franchise, the cult favorite Firefly TV show, for playing Leslie Thompkins in Gotham, and she starred in V.

Jóhannesson is best known as Olaf Haraldsson on Vikings: Valhalla, Viggo in Those About to Die, and he will play Copperhead in Captain America: Brave New World.

Masters of the Universe is scheduled for theatrical release on June 5, 2026.
