In an alternate universe where Lord Drakkon ruled as a violent dictator, Kimberly Hart was his number one soldier, the Ranger Slayer. When she met the Power Rangers, they cleared her mind of Drakkon’s manipulative control, revealing her true nature. Since then, Kimberly has been on a nature versus nurture journey, wanting to make up for her atrocious crimes while also dealing with her warrior instincts.

Power Rangers: Ranger Slayer #1 presents a portion of that journey when Kimberly returns to the Coinless Universe to make amends and try to improve a society still ruled by a power-hungry villain. It won’t be easy convincing old enemies that they can be allies or fighting the still-gathered forces of Lord Drakkon, but if anyone is up to the challenge, it’s the Ranger Slayer.

This extra-sized issue by Ryan Parrott dips back into the Coinless Universe and a more mature Power Rangers story. Here the villains are campy and cartoony looking – they are downright frightening, compliments of Dan Mora’s art and Raúl Angulo’s colors. The emotional level of the book is also charged, coming across articulately through the dialogue and the art.

A redemption story overflowing with conflict, Ranger Slayer #1 was well executed on the writing and art, laying plenty of groundwork for future stories in this fractured universe in need of a hero willing to get her hands dirty.
