Will Profane is a private detective working the meaner streets in Los Angeles. He also happens to be a fictional character and actually knows this. Will is trying to solve the murder of his creator, writer Spud Coltrane, which has taken him into the non-fiction world. So far his investigation has led him to a Will Profane detective novel superfan, his creator’s literary nemesis, a femme fatale, and a dangerous criminal organization.

Profane is like a love letter to hardboiled gumshoe novels of the early 20th century that also pokes fun at the genre’s well worn tropes. Peter Milligan is writing a story with all the investigative twists and surprise revelations while also giving Will freedom to shed the hardened detective schtick to save his own life. Artist Raül Fernandez and colorist Giada Marchisio bring the story to life with classic detective movie style with dark alleyways and hidden corners, as well as detailed backgrounds that set the scene. It’s a great book for fans of detective novels.
