AWA; $3.99

Former spy turned professor Randall Crane returned to Russia and quickly ended up on the radar of crime boss Andreiko Volkov. Since his arrival, Crane has been on the run from the best assassins in the country, with only Nika (the daughter of a former associate) and Diedre (his handler in the US) as his allies. With a new hit squad surrounding their location, Crane and Nika get ready for their last stand.

This four-issue miniseries was awesome. Cullen Bunn wrote a fast-paced story that took the exciting third act of a spy movie and evenly spread it out into four issues. Mike Deodato Jr. provided gorgeous art. He sets the scene with loads of detail and the characters are realistic, some even resemble a few famous actors. Colorist Lee Loughridge brings even more realism to the art, whether it’s the blue glow of a computer screen or the purple-black of a clandestine nighttime escape.

Red Zone is a great read for spy/thriller fans – or anyone who likes a good comic.
