Revival, the genre-bending comic by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, is being adapted as a TV series at Syfy. The network announced its main cast that is led by Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp), David James Elliott (JAG), Romy Weltman (Slasher), and Andy McQueen (Mrs. Davis).
Published by Image Comics, Revival is a murder mystery with the unexpected twist that the dead have risen – but not in the typical zombie fashion. The comic debuted in July 2012, and ran for 47 issues through February 2017.
“On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story, as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were,” the official logline reads. “When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
Scrofano will play Dana, who is not just an officer, but also the daughter of the sheriff, and is planning to leave town when Revival Day events change her plans. Elliott stars as Wayne Cypress, the longtime sheriff whose goal is to keep his family and town safe and normal, which proves difficult when the dead rise. Weltman takes the role of Martha “Em” Cypress, the sheriff’s younger daughter who has lived a sheltered life because of an ongoing illness. McQueen will be Ibrahim Ramin, a Center for Disease Control scientist studying the strange situation that has brought people back from the dead.
The Revival show was created by showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who are executive producers alongside Scrofano, Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster. Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films are producing the series. Revival has entered production and is being filmed in New Brunswick, Canada.
