Robert E. Howard is considered the father of the sword and sorcery genre. He created iconic characters like Conan the Barbarian, Red Sonya, Solomon Kane, and King Kull, who have appeared in pulp magazines, books, and comics, and starred in movies, TV shows, and games.
Howard Days, a celebration of his work and impact on pop culture, was created in 1986. Held at the Robert E. Howard House & Museum in Cross Plains, Texas, the event brings together fans, scholars, writers, artists, and historians.
The most recent Howard Days was held on April 28-29, 2023, which included a panel on 100 years of Weird Tales and Howard-related art. Author-historian J. David Spurlock opened the panel, “These Sorcerers of Old,” which Robert E. Howard Foundation President Rusty Burke stated “may be the single finest intro to a Howard Days panel ever” on social media.
The intro, with post-production editing effects by comics historian Alex Grand, was recently uploaded to YouTube.
