S.H.I.E.L.D. #2
Marvel; $3.99
This second issue of the comic series inspired by Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. really hits its stride as two agents inadvertently team up with Kamala Khan, better known as the new Ms. Marvel. A bag of contaminated pizza dough leads to the student body regurgitating up a grotesque dough monster, but as Kamala learns more of the extent of her powers, she, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, are able to handle the situation.
This series works because each issue looks as though it’s going to be its own contained story – like an episode of a television show, of course – allowing for each issue to presumably highlight S.H.I.E.L.D.’s interaction with various heroes. Kamala has been incredibly compelling in her solo series, but to see Ms. Marvel taking down bad guys alongside the Agents, even if for one issue, is just as interesting. Fans of the show will enjoy this series, but fans of Ms. Marvel may also want to consider picking this up if they didn’t start at #1.
