Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #2
DC Comics; $3.99
When DC decided to bring back the Sensation Comics line in August 2014, it was the first time the title was used since 1999, and the first time it was an ongoing series since the 1950s. Issue #2 of this ongoing line packs a wallop, containing two short stories that follow the Amazonian princess.
The first story, “Taketh Away,” has Wonder Woman dealing with a religious crisis of sorts while simultaneously needing to take down classic villains such as the Cheetah. The second, “Brace Yourself,” follows a young Diana as she receives her famous bracers.
The stories deal with some heavy but important themes, such as feminism and religion, but tactfully and respectfully take them on. As these stories appear to take place outside DC’s New 52 storyline, they’re easy to pick up for readers who may not be familiar with the current iteration of Wonder Woman. This is an absolute must read for fans of the iconic character, or for anyone looking for DC’s take on some hot button issues. We look forward to seeing what they’ll do with this title down the line.
