The Coda creative team of writer Simon Spurrier (Damn Them All) and artist Matías Bergara (Step By Bloody Step) are returning to the fantasy series for a new Coda comic that will be out in September 2023.

Coda is an apocalyptic fantasy world that keeps getting darker and darker. It is home to Hum, a down and out bard, who has finally found joy with his wife Serka. When prophecies predict the return of magic, Hum is immediately skeptical as Serka deals with moral dilemmas as winter approaches.

“It’s Coda. It’s Matias. It’s about what happens after the magic dies. It’s about muddling through and giant crabs and accursed moons and love and religion and kamikaze messenger-fairies and foul-mouthed unicorns and trying really, really, really hard not to go on quests,” Spurrier said. “It’s the funnest and most poisonous and best thing to write, ever, and I think it might be our best work yet.”

Coda has been my absolute favorite book I have ever worked on. I prefer to call it a place, a dimension – one in which a part of me lives day by day in a state of curiosity and discovery,” Bergara said. “My greatest joy is seeing people reading and entering into this dimension with us.”

Coda #1 comes with a main cover by Bergara and variants by Toni Infante (We Only Find Them When They’re Dead) and Nick Dragotta (East of West).

“It’s an absolute pleasure and privilege to welcome back one of BOOM!’s seminal titles,” Executive Editor Eric Harburn said. “In 2018, Si and Matías built a post-modern fantasy masterpiece that was years ahead of its time; in 2023, they’re back to do it again with a new chapter in the lives of Hum, Serka, and the Nag.”

The first issue will be in comic shops on September 27, 2023.
