Starbreaker is a humanoid energy vampire who has been causing trouble for the Justice League since he was introduced in Justice League of America #96 (February 1972). Created by Mike Friedrich and Dick Dillin, he is exceptionally strong and intelligent, can project and manipulate energy, he can generate illusions, and absorb energy.

Starbreaker made his debut in a big way, facing off against several powerful DC characters. Adam Strange summoned the Flash, Green Lantern, Hawkman, and Superman to Rann to stop Starbreaker, who was planning to destroy the planet by consuming its energy. He split himself into three parts to fight Adam Strange and the Justice League, but he was defeated.

Wanting revenge for their interference, Starbreaker attacked Earth, defeating Superman, the Flash, and Green Lantern. The rest of the Justice League, along with Sargon the Sorcerer, came together to stop Starbreaker, then he was imprisoned by the Guardians of the Universe.

He escaped (as villains do), and conquered Almerac to consume the planet’s energies. Once again he was stopped by the Justice League, albeit a different version, this time with Blue Beetle using Booster Gold’s armor to absorb his energy.

Sh’ri Valkyr, a death cultist from Thanagar, revived Starbreaker by feeding him the energy of others. The cultist wanted to use Rann’s teleportation technology to turn the whole universe into energy that Starbreaker could feed on, to become the ruler of a new universe. Once again Adam Strange came to stop him, this time with the help of Omega Man and LEGION. They left Starbreaker in an empty universe with no energy.

Now incorporeal, Starbreaker returned to attack the Justice League once he found an entity that could sustain him for years. He started a new fight with the JLA, but was weakened by Firestorm and Doctor Light, then Paladin (an alternate version of Batman) shot him in the head. Despite yet another death, it is likely that he’ll be revived once again.
