The Haunting Movie Score Gets Vinyl Release

In 1999, Speed and Twister director Jan de Bont traded big budget action for dramatic horror with his film, The Haunting. Based on Shirley Jackson’s novel, The Haunting of Hill House, the movie starred Liam Neeson, Lili Taylor, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Owen Wilson as a group of people who plan to participate in an insomnia study at an isolated estate. What the volunteers don’t know is that the doctor in charge (Neeson) is actually conducting an experiment in the psychological responses to fear when facing something terrifying.
The estate provides plenty of terror through the violent spirits that haunt the house. As the characters become tormented by the ghosts in increasingly malevolent ways, the score by Jerry Goldsmith heightens the unsettling tension and growing suspense.
Goldsmith’s score will soon be available on vinyl for the first time ever from Varèse Sarabande and Craft Recordings. The deluxe 2-LP is pressed on black, gold, and grey marble vinyl in the US and a translucent green vinyl in international markets. Both editions come with a gatefold jacket featuring cover art by Sina Grace, liner notes, and stills from the movie.
Goldsmith spent 50 years composing film scores, winning an Academy Award for his music in The Omen. He scored five Star Trek movies, three in the Rambo franchise, Logan’s Run, Planet of the Apes, Chinatown, Alien, Poltergeist, Total Recall, Air Force One, Mulan, and The Mummy among many others. He was nominated for six Grammy Awards, five Emmys, nine Golden Globes, and 18 Oscars.
The Haunting score on vinyl will be in stores on October 4, 2024, and is now open for preorders.
